Sardine and pelagic fish canning line

The TACORE sardine and pelagic canning line integrates every stage of processing small pelagic fish such as sardine, sprat, mackerel and horse mackerel: reception and freezing, heading and gutting, cooking, can packing, oil or sauce dosing, seamer feeding and retort sterilization. Each canning line is sized to the species, container format and plant layout, with cannery equipment built in AISI 304L and AISI 316L stainless steel.

How the line works

  1. 1

    Reception and freezing

Fresh fish is received and, when the plant needs to store raw material, frozen continuously by brine immersion at -18 °C followed by glazing and drying, so production can continue between catches.

  2. 2

    Heading and gutting

Fish is headed, cut and gutted at workstations and machines arranged in line, with continuous waste removal and a sanitary design that makes daily cleaning of the section easy.

  3. 3

    Racking and cooking

Product is placed in baskets or racks and cooked in static vacuum cookers sized to the species and required capacity, with homogeneous heat distribution that helps preserve fish weight and texture.

  4. 4

    Can packing

A motorized packing table feeds empty cans to the workstations and removes full ones, making manual or semi-automatic packing of sardine and mackerel ergonomic and continuous.

  5. 5

    Dosing and seaming

A volumetric doser adds oil or sauce to each can and the line links directly to the seamer, synchronizing packing, dosing and seaming in a continuous flow with no intermediate handling.

  6. 6

    Retort sterilization

Sealed cans are mechanically loaded into baskets and sterilized in steam or overpressure water spray retorts, with customizable recipes and recording of the thermal parameters of every batch.

  7. 7

    Washing and end of line

After basket unloading, a washer-dryer cleans the outside of the cans and dries them with air knives before labeling, case packing and palletizing, so finished cans leave the line clean and ready for shipment.

Line advantages

  • Complete solution from a single manufacturer, from fish reception to sterilized product.
  • Packing, dosing and seaming synchronized in one continuous line.
  • Option to brine-freeze raw material and work independently of catches.
  • Ergonomic workstations for the manual operations typical of pelagic fish.
  • Turnkey engineering: design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning by the same team.

Species and formats

Suitable for sardine, sprat, mackerel, horse mackerel and other pelagic species canned in oil, marinade, tomato or other sauces. The line handles tinplate and aluminium cans in dingley, club, oval or round formats, as well as glass jars. The same packing equipment can be shared with an anchovy semi-preserves line.

Frequently asked questions

Does TACORE supply turnkey sardine canning plants?

+

Yes. TACORE designs, manufactures and installs complete sardine and pelagic canning lines. The scope can cover everything from reception and -18 °C brine freezing to can packing, seamer feeding and sterilization.

Which can formats can the line handle?

+

The line works with tinplate and aluminium cans in dingley, club, oval and round formats, as well as glass jars. Conveyors, packing table and doser are configured for the formats chosen by the cannery.

Can the line be installed in stages?

+

Yes. Each machine, such as the packing table, the dosing and seaming line, the retort or the washer-dryer, can be supplied separately and integrated with existing cannery equipment, so the plant can be expanded or modernized step by step.
